1. General Provisions & Acceptance
This User Agreement (hereinafter the "Agreement") sets forth the terms and conditions governing the access to and use of the Paintword online game and web platform (including the website, game canvas, administrative tools, and associated services).
By accessing, browsing, registering an account, or interacting with interactive painting crossword puzzles on Paintword, any individual or entity (hereinafter the "User") expressly and unconditionally agrees to be legally bound by all terms, notices, and policies incorporated herein.
If you do not agree to these terms, you must immediately discontinue using the Paintword application.
2. User Roles & Account Security
Paintword provides role-based access to balance seamless casual gameplay and robust content management:
Can explore and solve public game puzzles directly without creating an account.
Signs in to preserve game progression, solved keywords, and puzzle mastery across devices.
Authorized access to upload artwork, run color-region segmentation, edit polygon contours, and publish puzzles.
Authentication is secured through JSON Web Tokens (JWT) and encrypted passwords. Users are solely responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of their login credentials and any activity conducted under their account.
3. Artwork, Color Segmentation & Intellectual Property
Paintword celebrates fine art and puzzle solving. The platform employs high-performance image processing (powered by sharp) to perform color-region detection and trace arbitrary polygon contours across featured masterpieces.
- Public Domain Artworks: Historical paintings utilized on the platform are sourced from public domain collections and cultural heritage archives.
- Original Platform Features: Crossword layouts, element segmentation maps, keyword hints, software code, UI design, and branding are the intellectual property of Paintword.
- Administrative Uploads: Administrators must ensure all uploaded images and artworks adhere to copyright laws and licensing standards prior to publishing.
4. Gameplay Rules & Fair Play
The Paintword experience revolves around interactive art puzzles: clicking highlighted canvas regions, guessing associated keywords in the popover dialogue, and completing the corresponding crossword puzzle grid.
Users agree not to exploit automated bots, scrapers, or reverse-engineering techniques to tamper with crossword solution keys, game state APIs, or administrative endpoints.
5. User Privacy & Data Protection
Paintword respects user privacy and adheres to data minimization principles:
- Account Information: For registered users, we store user emails and securely hashed credentials in a PostgreSQL database.
- Progress Tracking: Gameplay state (such as solved elements, discovered keywords, and active puzzle sessions) is saved locally in browser storage and synchronized with the backend API for authenticated users.
- No Commercial Sale of Data: Paintword does not sell, rent, or distribute personal information or player habits to third-party advertisers.
- Data Deletion Requests: Users may request complete deletion of their account and associated progress by contacting the support team.
6. Disclaimer of Warranties & Limitations
The Paintword platform is provided on an "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" basis. While we strive for continuous availability, high-fidelity image segmentation, and accurate crossword clues, Paintword makes no warranties, express or implied, regarding uninterrupted uptime, error-free polygon generation, or specific outcomes.
In no event shall Paintword or its developers be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages resulting from the use or inability to use the platform.
